"Smart" mask could heal severe facial burns
Researchers at the University of Texas at Arlington, the U.S. Army and Northwestern University are working on a mask equipped with microsensors and actuators to heal severely burned faces. A rigid, face-shaped shell covers flexible polymer layers equipped with electrical and mechanical components that release growth factors or stem cells to promote tissue regeneration. "As the wounds heal, the Biomask will be able to adjust treatment to provide faster and better results," lead researcher Eileen Moss said. CNET (2/1),
