CDC panel says people through age 45 could benefit from getting HPV vaccine
The Washington Post (6/26, Bever) reports at a two-day meeting of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), a “public health advisory panel said Wednesday that people through age 45 could benefit from getting an HPV vaccine and should discuss the possibility with their doctors.” According to the Post, “one committee member said although most people in that age group do not need the vaccine, it may be beneficial for a small number,” while opponents of the change “cited concerns about potential disparities in access to the vaccine, the global vaccine supply and a potential decline in immunization rates among teenagers and young adults.”
The AP (6/26, Stobbe) reports “the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ vote in Atlanta raises the recommended vaccination age for men from 21 to 26, making it the same as the existing recommendation for women.”
